Statistical Assistant

NOTE:
This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 4 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration. Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition. These positions have been established to provide technical and clerical support for data management and statistical analyses activities associated with Medical Research projects. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
Data Collection:
administers surveys and collects data through in-person and telephone interviews with older adult subjects, physicians, health care workers, and administrators. Searches, retrieves, reviews, and tabulates information and data from secondary sources (medical records, published literature, on-line sources) using various automated searches, websites and publications, and disseminates surveys, prepares labels/envelops or online groups; maintains logs of mailings and return of surveys. Data Entry and Computation:
reviews data collection forms for completeness and consults with data collectors for corrections, as needed. Creates computer databases using statistical package for the social sciences (i.e., SPSS) and database (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Access) software programs; creates, names and defines data variables and selects appropriate parameters. Enters numerical and text data into computer databases. Runs frequency distributions of variables to identify errors, outliers, and missing data; corrects errors and reports other data problems to statistician. Designs and maintains logs to record dates of data and cleaning, explanatory notes, and variations in processes/procedures. Uses statistical software to run descriptive analyses for recurring and non-recurring reports and tabulates and displays data in tables, charts, and graphs for research publications and presentations and assist in the design and production of PowerPoint presentation and posters of research project results. Budget Assistance:
initiates and completes paperwork to request payment for research subjects and mileage reimbursement for staff. Maintains logs and databases to document requests, payments, and fund balances. Replies to inquires from subjects, staff and fiscal services. Maintains inventory of study-related supplies, contacts vendors for pricing and availability, prepares and submit order requests. Experience:
Requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes:
administering surveys to research participants; understanding of research process as it relates to data collection, entry, and management; using SPSS statistical software to create and manage databases, generate tables, charts, and graphs; using Microsoft Office computer software programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Electronic Mail) to summarize data, prepare research reports and complete other correspondence. (Resume(s) must clearly support responses to the online questionnaire to be creditable for the experience requirement.) -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Successful completion of four years of education above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
