Duties may consist of, but is not limited to:
Performs the full range of work in the installation, repair, maintenance and modification of a wide variety of commercial locking devices with varying makes and models found in doors, desks, safes, vaults, compartments, mobile equipment, and secured areas. Produce and/or duplicate keys, programming of access control key cards and door hardware, and the recoding of combination locking mechanisms. Responsible for the design and use of A4 master key system to preclude the overuse of keys and to provide offices with a more effective. Responsible for design and/or installation of locks and integrated locking systems (e.g., including electronic panic button interfaces, etc.) Determines malfunctioning components and repairs by reworking existing parts based on knowledge of internal structure plus the operating characteristics of a wide range of models and of their working interrelationship with related components. Determines precise locations and angles for drilling without harming the contents or causing irrevocable damage to the locking mechanisms or containers. Uses a large variety of intricate tools to perform this work and provides maintenance on same. Installs new parts as needed and fabricates repair items such as locking bolts and special screws. May also fabricate parts necessary to repair locks no longer in production, requiring careful determination of dimensions/specifications and the use of a variety of hand and power tools. Performs visual and operations tests to locate trouble and determine method for opening and repairing malfunctioning devices. Responsible for working with general instructions and minimum supervision. Assignments may be given in the form of written work orders or oral instructions that specify desired product. Troubleshoots access control systems and all components including control panels, door hardware, card readers, release devices, transformers and all other related devices. Disassembles repairs, cleans, reassembles, and reinstalls a large variety of moderate to extremely complex locking devices. Provides expert advice and recommendations to management on the most appropriate locks/systems for specific security requirements. Where appropriate, suggests the use of a master key system. Modifies the Master Key system adding new divisions as the need of the facility changes and realigns. Responsible for pinning cores to accommodate change key, master key and cross key. As requested, designs and installs such master key systems. Designs and installs locks and integrated locking systems (e.g., including electronic panic button interfaces, etc.) to meet special security requirements and management needs. Increases the level of key control and security by modifying keyways and key blanks to create local-unique combinations. Reviews trade journals, catalogs, regulations and manuals to maintain expert knowledge of locks and associated hardware, new products, and regulatory requirements affecting work. Frequent use of computer for the programming of access control security systems. Able to add and delete cardholders from the database, maintain accurate lock and door association. Uploads programs through the network controller, handheld devices or any means required to assure optimum performance from the access control system. Work Schedule:

The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Locksmith without more than normal supervision. This ability must include specialized experience as follows:
repairing, overhauling, modifying, testing, and installing a variety of locking devices found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and other secured areas; increasing the level of key control and security by modifying key ways and key blanks to create local-unique combinations; troubleshooting to determine malfunctioning components and repairs; installing new parts as needed and fabricating repair items such as locking bolts and special screws; duplicating keys and placing/changing combinations for locking mechanisms; and providing recommendations to management on the most appropriate locks/systems for specific security requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Work assignments require standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling for prolonged periods, as well as working in cramped and awkward positions. Incumbent is required to lift items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Work is normally performed in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated area. Occasionally work is performed outside in inclement weather or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, and serious burns./.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
